Mechanical Engineering graduate student Ivan Wang won a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship from the Department of Defense and the American Society for Engineering Education. In his doctoral research, Ivan aims to build simple and robust theoretical models for predicting the aeroelastic stability and possible performance benefits of a folding wing, a type of morphing aircraft whose wings consist of multiple segments that can rotate relative to each other. Morphing aircraft design allows a single aircraft to attain optimal geometry and improve performance over multiple mission types. The fellowship will provide full tuition plus $30,000 yearly stipend for up to 3 years. Ivan is a student of Professor Earl Dowell.
